CYTOPATHOLOGY TESTS

The Cytopathology department with modern technological equipment carries out the whole range of cytological examinations, such as Liquid Based Cytology tests, FNAB tests, etc.

The Cytopthalogy department of our laboratory, possessing state-of-the-art technical equipment, is able to perform the entire range of Cytology exams available.
Pap smear and Liquid Based Pap are offered, together with HPV DNA testing were needed.

The Sputum sample, usually collected in the morning, comes from deep expectoration or bronchoscopy and is instrumental in identifying primary and metastatic neoplasms.

Nipple secretions, hemorrhagic ones in particular, should be submitted to cytological examination as this relatively simple (from a technical perspective) test allows the identification of neoplasias developing from the major or minor breast ducts.
The secretion is coated on slides, or placed in small containers pre-filled with a special fixative (for liquid based cytology). We provide the clinical doctor with all relevant material.

The technique of Fine Needle Aspiration Biopsy (FNAB) is recommended and implemented in the diagnostic cytological assessment of cystic or solid tumors, such as:
– thyroid gland disorders (hyperplasia /goiter, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, thyroid carcinoma)
– lung diseases (fluid collection, inflammation, pleural effusions) – pancreatic diseases – diseases of any solid organ / cystic lesion.

The CELL BLOCK technique: 1“Microdiagnostiki” differentiates itself from the competition by choosing to use the CELL BLOCK technique for every FNAB specimen collected. This means that the FNAB cytological specimen is treated in such a way that by the end of the preparatory steps it is enclosed in a paraffin block, as is usually the case for histological material collected after a biopsy (FFPE). This, in turn, has the following benefits:
– In this way, the tissue segment that may have remained in the needle is not lost, but embedded in a CELL BLOCK, which ensures:
– taking multiple sections for a more valid diagnosis
– immunohistochemistry for a more reliable
– conducting molecular examinations / biomarker tests to select the most appropriate treatment.
– The material can be archived, thus reused in future time.

The fluids of internal bodily cavities include:
- Preural fluid
- Pericardial fluid
- Ascitic fluid
- Cerebrospinal fluid
- Arhricular fluid
The liquid cytology sample is collected by using the FNAB technique and is subsequently submitted to the necessary preparation and diagnostic evaluation. This allows for the identification of inflamations or of protopathic and more commonly of metastatic malignant neoplasms.
