Evaggelia Athanasiou

Evangelia K. Athanasiou graduated from the Medical School of the University of Ioannina in 1990. In 1998, she obtained the title of Medical Speciality in Pathological Anatomy and in 2003 the title of PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She then worked for 3 years as a salaried post-doctoral research associate in the Laboratory of General Pathology and Pathological Anatomy of AUTH.

Since then she has been working as a Pathological Anatomist, while she has also been employed as an unsalaried research associate of the Gene and Cell Therapy Centre at the Haematology Clinic of the G. Papanikolaou Hospital as well as a salaried laboratory associate at the School of Health Sciences of the Alexander Technological Institute of Thessaloniki.

Evangelia has worked at Microdiagnostics since 2000. She is particularly interested in diseases of the lympho-hematopoietic system (e.g. osteomyeloid biopsies, lymph node diseases), and has also deepened her knowledge of the histopathological diagnosis of gynaecological diseases (oncology, reproductive disorders). She has great experience in the assessment of PD-L1 immunomarker expression in lung, bladder, breast and oesophageal cancer. She has received special training in the interpretation of PD-L1 expression at Targos in Kassel, Germany.
