I Choose PredictArray Thyroid

PredictArray Thyroid

With PredictArray Thyroid, we focus on 6 genes that most statistically show genetic instability in thyroid cancer.

The panel consists of the BRAF, KRAS, NRAS, HRAS, RET/PTC, and PAX8 / PPRγ genes.

The number and type of mutations that are examined are being informed through a dynamic process, according to current scientific research. It should, therefore, be mentioned the possibility that the list of genes in the order form may have changed (genes that are added or removed) when analyzing the sample in the laboratory.

PredictArray Thyroid is recommended in the following cases:

  • for patient treatment who seem to have nodules in the thyroid gland, with cytological examination unspecified or suspected of malignancy.
  • the mutation detection in the BRAF gene is found in aggressive forms of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and is associated with a worse prognosis.
  • mutation detection in the BRAF gene is associated with recurrence of the disease after the surgery
  • mutation detection in the BRAF gene is associated with lymph node metastases

PredictArray Thyroid is performed on the biopsy material (paraffin block, FFPET) or on the FNAB cell block in which your histological or cytological examination was conducted.

In our vertical integrated Laboratory, we handle your sample in such way as to minimize its unnecessary waste:

  • The paraffin block (FFPET) or CELL BLOCK (produced by FNAB reception) is placed once in the microtome to obtain tissuesections by experienced histotecnologists.
  • Incisions are sequentially acquired in such a way as to provide immunohistochemistry diagnosis and if required.
  • Ensure maintenance of incisions for further molecular testing.
  • Pathologists perform microdissection, in order to ensure the highest possible amount of cancer cells, removing all other necrotic cells or normal tissue that could affect the validity of the results.
  • Directly, the molecular biologist treats the tissue in a completely controlled environment with next-generation sequencing (NGS), or polymerase chain reaction of real-time (Real-time PCR) for the detection of mutations in genes of interest.

Most thyroid cancers are highly treatable, although about 5% of cases (myeloid and regenerative carcinoma) are more aggressive and tend to spread to other organs. Treatment depends on the histological type of the cancerous tumor, its size, and the presence or absence of an extra-thyroid disease.

• Surgical treatment

• Administration of radioactive iodine (I-131) after surgery for differentiated thyroid carcinoma

• Hormone therapy with thyroxine

• Treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors
have been used in several clinical trials as a targeted anti-cancer treatment in undifferentiated thyroid neoplasms.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The PredictArray Thyroid is conducted in the biopsy material (paraffin block, FFPET) or FNAB cytology material (Cellblock) on which your histological or cytological examination was performed

Your doctor has performed a fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) to extract cells from the nodule/nodules in your thyroid to microscopically check if the nodule is benign or cancerous. If the result of the cytological examination is unspecified, then PredictArray Thyroid can help us understand whether the nodule is benign or not. The examination is checking for mutations in 6 specific genes.

You will need to bring the sample in which your cytological examination was conducted (sample of fine-needle aspiration biopsy FNAB)

It usually takes 6 business days. In case more time is needed you will be informed in due time.
