How does cervical cancer develop?
Cervical cancer develops as a result of long-term infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV). HPV infection is very common, with most women of reproductive age being infected at some point in their lives. In most cases, the virus clears up on its own, leaving no damage to the cervix. However, there are a few cases where the virus persists and causes so-called precancerous lesions, which are divided into low-grade (LGSIL-CIN1) and high-grade (HGSIL-CIN2-3).
The HPV DNA test is a CE/IVD DNA test for the molecular detection and typing of the human papillomavirus.
The test is based on the PCR microarray method.
The test can detect the following HPV subtypes (41 in total):
- High risk (16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59)
- Low risk (6, 11, 40, 42, 43, 44, 54, 55, 57, 61, 62, 72, 81CP8304, 83MM7, 84MM8, 90, 91), as well as
- Those at possibly high risk 26, 34, 53, 66, 67, 68a, 68b, 69, 70, 73, 82IS39, 82MM4
Subtype classification is performed according to the WHO Human Papillomavirus Laboratory Manual, 2013.
This method is suitable for liquid phase cytology specimens, swabs and biopsy specimens (paraffin-embedded tissue-FFPET).
The method detects ≥50-5000 viral copies per reaction.
Detection is performed for each subtype separately.
