SomArray Ovarian

With SomArray Ovarian we focus on the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes, as well as an additional 10 genes that statistically show genetic instability more often in ovarian cancer.

Consult your Oncologist to get the best possible choice for you and personalized treatment. Further personalization of exams is possible.

The number and type of mutations that are examined are being informed through a dynamic process, according to current scientific research. It should, therefore, be recognized that there is a possibility the list of genes in the order form may have been changed (genes that are added or removed) while analyzing the sample in the laboratory

If you have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer (diagnosis based on histological examination), it is possible that the indications for determining the molecular profile of cancer will be met. This molecular test aims to detect whether the tumor has mutations in the BRCA1 and BRAC2 genes as well as in 10 other closely related genes associated with ovarian cancer

According to the NCCN (National Comprehensive Cancer Network), patients with invasive ovarian cancer (serous, non-mucosal carcinomas, high-grade malignancy) carrying mutations in the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes seem to have improved prognosis and response in chemotherapy than patients who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer without mutations in the BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes. More specifically, these patients show:

  • higher 5-year survival rates
  • higher Progression-Free Survival
  • better response to chemotherapy than patients with ovarian cancer without mutations in BRCA1 & BRCA2 genes

The SomArray Prostate is conducted on the biopsy material or lumpectomy (paraffin block) on which your histology examination has been conducted.

At our vertically integrated Laboratory, we handle your sample in such a way as to minimize its unnecessary waste:

  • The paraffin block is inserted if it is possible once in the microtome to obtain tissue incisions by experienced histotechnologists.
  • Tissue sections are sequentially acquired in such a way as to provide immunohistochemical stains and if required.
  • Ensure maintenance of tissue sections for further molecular testing.
  • Pathologists perform microdissection, in order to ensure the highest possible amount of cancer cells, removing all other necrotic cells or normal tissue that could affect the validity of the results.
  • Directly, the molecular biologist treats the tissue in a completely controlled environment with next-generation sequencing (NGS), or polymerase chain reaction of real-time (Real-time PCR) for the detection of mutations in genes of interest.
